Screenwipe Returns For Christmas

Posted by StevieD on November 23rd, 2009

charliebrooker1_swThe Christmas TV schedules seem to get worse every year, so it has to be good news that Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe will return next month for another review of the year’s telly offerings. If you’ve never seen the show before, Brooker (tv critic, writer, presenter, and BBC Four’s answer to Harry Hill) casts his eyes over the world of tv, highlighting it’s absurdities but also celebrating the good.

Screenwipe first came to BBC Four’s screens in early 2006 with three pilot shows, leading to a longer full series later that same year. Three series have followed, that included previous reviews of the year in 2007 and 2008. This year’s review promises to cast an eye over Live At Studio Five, Nick Griffin’s appearance on Question Time, and those annoying Christmas ads you get every year (I’m sure Morrisons will get a mention there).

It’ll be the first new Screenwipe since last year’s review, as Brooker has been busy this year with two spin-offs, a series of Newswipe (taking a similar look at the world of tv news coverage) and Gameswipe, which was a one-off computer games themed show. BBC Four have also confirmed that a second series of Newswipe is to follow in the new year, which is more good news.

The exact transmission date is yet to be confirmed, but expect Charlie Brooker’s Screenwipe Review of 2009 to air in late December. I’ll try and post more details nearer the time. Check out the video below for a taster of Screenwipe.
